BENJAMIN SHEPHERD // “MONEY OR TIME” & “FRIDAY FANTASY” // 09/30/2018 // @ CHURCH HILL OVERLOOK, RICHMOND, VA

ARTIST INFO: BENJAMIN SHEPHERD

“‘Hold the Line,’ [is] a solid collection of eight songs finely aged over the past two years that mark the exponential growth of an artist. Lush arrangements, swanky guitars and hearty vocals flourish in 30 glorious minutes reminiscent of a young John Prine or Neil Young.” – Hilary Langford, Style Weekly

MCKINLEY DIXON AND FRIENDS // “THE IMPORTANCE OF SELF-BELIEF” // 07/15/2017 // @ CLARK SPRINGS ELEMENTARY, RICHMOND, VA

ARTIST INFO: MICKINLEY DIXON

“His music harkens back to the jazz-oriented hip-hop of the ’90s, like A Tribe Called Quest and Slum Village, and Dixon employs a full band to accompany his eagle-eyed penchant for observation. Dixon’s style mirrors the hyper-realistic and progressive stylings of literary icons like Toni Morrison and James Baldwin.” – Nicholas Coyne, Tidal

Illiterate Light

ILLITERATE LIGHT // “HERE LIE THE BONES OF MY FAVORITE CAR” // 06/24/2018 // @ CHESTERFIELD AUTO PARTS, RICHMOND, VA

ARTIST INFO: ILLITERATE LIGHT

“Illiterate Light’s Jeff Gorman and Jake Cochran used to run an organic farm to pay the bills while they worked on music. When the crops failed, they sold edible weeds under the name Wild Mix. The name could also be applied to their energetic live shows, with the two playing a full band’s worth of instruments. Close your eyes and you hear a four or five-piece band. Jeff handles lead vocals, guitar and bass, which he plays on a keyboard with his feet. Jake provides backup vocals and propels the songs from a customized stand-up drum kit. This isn’t a gimmick; the music on the duo’s self-titled release holds up.” – Jon Hart, NPR

DOLL BABY // “PERFECT POSTURE” & “DRIFT” // 04/23/2017 // @ VIRGINIA CENTER COMMONS, RICHMOND, VA

ARTIST INFO: DOLL BABY

“Between guitarist/vocalist Julie Storey’s killer and unique set of pipes on these tracks, and the 90s-esque nostalgic vibe the video gives off with its setting and the grungey, loud garage rock sound from the rest of the band, Good Day RVA’s creation makes me wish I actually had gone out for a shopping trip that day to catch a sneak peek at their live recording.” – Amy David, RVA Magazine
